OUR CLUB

Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club lies within a bend of the river Thames in south-west London next to the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew. Golf has been played on this stretch of royal parkland since 1892 but it was the club’s great professional, JH Taylor, five times Open Champion, who set about transforming the landscape into one of the finest golf courses in Surrey.

At Royal Mid-Surrey, we love our golf, cherish our club community and maintain our tradition of warmly welcoming members and friends.

ABOUT

Our Heritage

Founded in 1892, Royal Mid-Surrey has built its reputation on good golfers, good members and championing both women’s golf and junior players. The royal connection is deep. The course landmark is the King’s Observatory built in 1768-9 by George III. King George V conferred royal status on the club in 1926 when his son, The Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII became captain. But if you are thinking stuffy, think again. For members it has always been a home from home.

ABOUT

Our Members

The fire which destroyed the old, pavilion-style clubhouse in 2001 changed the course of history for Royal Mid-Surrey. In 2003 a re-built clubhouse welcomed new members, reflecting the more diverse backgrounds of Londoners, including a thriving and active group of players in the 18-30 age group who add to the club’s playing strength and its social life. There is more of a family feel, less traditional perhaps, but still very much Royal Mid-Surrey.
